Why I put cows on mugs

People ask me why cows.

Honest answer? Where I live, cows are part of the landscape. Out here in cow country you can’t drive past a paddock without one watching you go. They have personalities, opinions, and excellent timing for when they decide to sit on a fence and become a road hazard.

The Locals cow herd mug
The Locals. Based on actual cows that actually live near me.

I’d been doodling cow drawings for years. Sketches of the locals, the herd at the back of the property, the one who always escapes through the same gate. They sat in a notebook for years before I worked out you could put them on mugs and ship them to anywhere in the world.

So that’s what we do.

The brief

Each design is a cow with a personality. Not a generic stock cow. Not a corporate mascot. The Locals (the herd portrait on our flagship mug) is based on actual cows that actually live around here.

Our Weather Analysts is what cows do every time the forecast says storm warning. They line up, all facing the same direction, like they’re listening. Better predictor than any app I’ve used.

I’ve been a scientist about it. Watch the cows, draw the cows, put the cows on mugs.

The mugs

Not handmade. Not “small batch artisanal” anything. I work with a global production partner that prints to order at the hub closest to where you live. Their mugs, my designs. You order, they print, it ships. Usually faster than I expected.

Means we don’t sit on stock, the prints are sharp, and a mug ordered in Berlin doesn’t get flown halfway around the world. Less waste, fewer flights, faster to your kitchen.

The point

A mug is a small object that you hold for ten quiet minutes every morning. If we can make those ten minutes a fraction more enjoyable, that’s the whole brief.

If you’re a gardener, the same principle applies to your tomatoes. I keep my own veg planning over at Garden Buddy and check the local community board for swap meets. Small joys add up.

Have a poke around the designs page and tell me which cow you’d want on your mug.
